Free-to-Use Running Tracks in Tokyo's 23 Wards
Updated July 15, 2026
By the traqqer Editorial Team
Tokyo has several synthetic tracks that can be used without an individual admission fee during public hours. Availability changes for private bookings, events, construction, and maintenance, so check the official source on the day you plan to visit.
This guide covers:
- Heiwa-no-Mori Park in Nakano
- Nerima General Athletic Park
- Yoyogi Park Athletics Stadium, also known as Oda Field
- Seibiyama Athletic Field in Suginami
- Oizumi Chuo Park Athletics Field
- Toneri Park Athletics Stadium
Heiwa-no-Mori Park, Nakano
The park is about a three-minute walk from Numabukuro Station and roughly 15 minutes from Nakano Station.
Features
- Unusual 300 m circuit
- Adjacent running station and indoor sports center
- Two nearby slopes of approximately 60 m and 100 m
- No spikes
- No dedicated jumping pit
The tighter curves feel different from a 400 m track, so faster runners should leave extra room and watch for other park users. This is a shared public facility rather than a track reserved exclusively for athletics.
Public-use periods and reservation rules change. Check the current Heiwa-no-Mori Park facility notices before visiting.
Nerima General Athletic Park
The facility is about a ten-minute walk from Nerima Station.
Features
- 400 m blue synthetic track
- Jumping facilities available during applicable public sessions
- Free individual use during designated open periods
- Frequent private bookings and events
The official schedule is updated regularly. In 2026, general public sessions are normally centered on the second Saturday and fourth Sunday, with additional summer openings, but competitions can change the pattern. Confirm the latest Nerima General Athletic Park opening information.
Yoyogi Park Athletics Stadium, Oda Field
Oda Field is between Harajuku and Shibuya and is one of central Tokyo’s best-known public 400 m tracks.
Features
- 400 m track in Yoyogi Park
- Often used by university groups and working athletes
- Events and maintenance can remove public access
- No jumping pit
As of July 15, 2026, the official notice says the stadium is unavailable from July 1 through November 30, 2026. Check the current Yoyogi Park closure notice before making the trip.
Seibiyama Athletic Field, Suginami
The track is about a ten-minute walk from Honancho Station. Some runners also approach along the Zenpukuji River from Ogikubo or Asagaya.
Features
- 400 m track
- Quieter location than the central-city facilities
- No jumping pit
- Public access can be interrupted by booked use
The venue reopened after previous work, but availability still changes. Review the Wadabori Park notices before visiting.
Oizumi Chuo Park Athletics Field
The park sits near Tokyo’s border with Wako. Wako-shi Station is the nearest major rail station, a little over two kilometers away.
Features
- 400 m track
- Free general access when the field is not privately booked
- No dedicated jumping pit noted in this guide
- Travel by rail requires a longer walk or a bus connection
The official facility page states that the track is open to the public without charge when it is not reserved, with regular public periods and maintenance exceptions. See the Oizumi Chuo Park facility information.
Toneri Park Athletics Stadium
The stadium is beside Toneri-koen Station.
Features
- 400 m track
- Jumping facilities
- Convenient access from the Nippori-Toneri Liner
- Limited public-use dates
Public openings have historically been concentrated on selected Wednesdays and weekends, but the schedule changes. Confirm the latest update from the official Toneri Park account.
Before You Go
Free access does not mean the facility is always open. Private bookings, competitions, maintenance, weather, and renovation can all change availability. Check the official page on the same day, bring shoes permitted by that facility, and share the track safely with other users.
